Little tribute video there.
I'm starting to think this aspect is a serious attraction to many people.
Yet it's so damn hard.
Thoughts, experiences?

It just occurred to me to check and see if Elvis and Priscilla had this aspect....no, but they have the opposition!

I don't like it, but I've only had it with my BIL, at least that I'm aware of. His Mars is conjunct my Moon, Venus, and South Node, square my Mars. Also conjunct my Vertex. I still don't feel comfortable around him, and don't know how I'm going to get over it.

Despite Elvis and Priscilla having an opposition aspect; I will still add my experiences of Mars square Mars in synastry
Scorpio Mars square my Leo Mars; that was difficult at times, a friend of my mine had this and he was a good guy but sometimes he became spiteful if you done some he didn't like and would get a little passive aggressive. He would hold onto things too much; your opinions, things you said. Methods and approaches were very different and although he could see my methods worked very well for me, he would still try to tell me how to do everything.
Taurus Mars; I think this planet has been easier; simply because if their Mars squares my Mars it will conjunction my sun and trine my Moon. Therefore the energy of the square becomes friction to move; not friction to frustrate. A little slow at times and inertia hits them; but once you have convinced them they are very committed to the cause. The friction of the square becomes healthy as naturally I want to move quick and they want to move slowly to complete; however the best response was me calming down and them being inspired.

Thanks for answering, both of you! "Despite Elvis and Priscilla having an opposition aspect; I will still add my experiences of Mars square Mars in synastry" Oh...there's more to life than Elvis? *confused* My Gemini Mars square Virgo Mars of college boyfriend (4 years off and on...mostly on). He was critical, I'd say he even had a tendency towards ridicule. I'd respond to that by: a) fighting back with my mouthy Mars b) seeing his point with my Cap sun (trine his Mars), or c) suffering in silence with my Pisces moon (opposing his Mars) Often, some kind of mixture of these, like saying with sad eyes: "Geez, could you be any ruder? But OKAY, I'll do it your way." Highly magnetic connection physically, and I think that's why he was more attached to the relationship than I was. Not to stereotype about men, but....well, no I guess I am stereotyping men.

Ha ha p and me have that. Very Widerrufs orb, 6 degrees, but is actually synchronized in solar arcs. His Mars ia being Hit by my planets pretty hard anyway (opposite ceres-jupiter, square asc-neptune-node, trine Venus)
Well Just today my pr moon hast entered rhe Same degree as His pr Mars in 14 Virgo. His pr Mars ia Just 4 degrees Off His Natal one.
Anyway it is also trine my pr asc on 14 capricorn and sexrile my pr Saturn in 13 Cap.
Well a Bit of Mars synastry, cannot really say thouhh how the Mars Mars square Plays Out. Interestingly however the dispositor of His Mars conjunncts my Mars while the dispositor of my Mars opposes His.

I'd imagine the square would frustrate me? Since it would also then square my Sun/Merc to some degree. I have a wide opposition with a friend. But we had other smooth aspects so, getting along as far as shared activities go was not a problem. She (Taurus mars) appreciated that I would suggest we do X or see Y. Getting Taurus mars outta the house is a little hard but totally worth it when they enjoy the outing. Conversely, I'd chill out and enjoy just sitting at home doing nothing. With the opposition, in a positive expression - each can imbibe the qualities of the other and be pleasantly surprised when it agrees with them. You really have to *want* to cooperate though - both can dig in their heels and refuse to give an inch. Like that story of the goats on the bridge. But if you do cooperate, you're a wonderful team. With the trine, we just fall into step effortlessly. No-one needs any convincing, it just happens. Sorry I don't have any Mars-Mars square stories. I couldn't find the video on the square - but she mentions it in passing in this video:

I wonder if genders have a role to play.
If the square is between 2 people of the same sex, it is likely to be harder because each others wills and desires will be out of sync. However, if the square is between a man and a woman, then perhaps it would manifest differently. Passions run high and low.
Personally, I have found adverse aspects with men harder to deal with than women.

That's a good point sven555 . I can't say...I've hardly ever had this aspect in synastry with a female friend. My Mars widely square my brother's Pisces Mars. We both have Mercury in Aquarius, we talk fast together, agree on most things, "Yeah yeah YEAH!" but then if we stay on the phone long enough, we get into arguments. Lately, we argue over the national debt, because he is intent on arguing with EVERYONE about the national debt. It's bizarre. So I say, "My angle is completely different, you need to read more..." (that's hostility from Gemini Mars: you need to read more) and he pretends to care about the books I recommend (I know he's pretending because he has never once read or looked at anything I've suggested...so maybe that's one way Pisces Mars can get on people's nerves? I'm definitely not saying they all do this, though.) Then he usually wants to preach about the Bible (Pisces Mars) and that's a whole other thing....Gemini Mars fights back by trying to filibuster, and all the sudden he has to run out the door. LOL

It is, after all, passion. With friends of the same gender - it's not like you can fight & "make up" in the same way...

pufferfishyyes, you are right and I know what you are getting at. I wonder if that is the only way to solve friction though... There must be other ways.

Hahaha! No, of course not. Shared activities are really fulfilling (I'm talking about friends here). For instance, my friends & I like going on trips together, exploring new places - even if it's just a new coffee shop. The point is to turn those Martian energies outwards rather than inwards (which results in squabbling). If you can *team up* for something, you discover your natural rhythm together. It puts the focus on something else, and ceases to be about "you vs me". Collaborating on something you're both passionate about is also a learning experience and ultimately rewarding. **Also depends on the people though. If they haven't matured beyond romantic relationships being their *only* form of interaction. There are some folks who have trouble having friendships outside of a romantic context. Which makes them see the same gender as "competition" out for the same "prize". If they haven't learned to value the human experience beyond that one-dimensional perspective, then it gets tough to contain those drives in platonic relationships (which fall victim to their antagonism and innate mistrust of their gender).

pufferfishyVery good examples! Yes, shared interests and activities are great methods of dealing with the martian energies. I think you can achieve alot together with the square, as it is constantly there!
